So I came home from work tonight at 8 and went downstairs to toss in some massivore and check on my fish. I noticed one of my 15" bass was very dark and sitting on the sand. My s. American pike is also dark and just sitting in an amazon sword. My other fish are all slower and less interested in food.
My water params are 0, 0, <40ppm. Nitrates are high I know but I've been doing smaller water changes. I used to do 50% every Thursday and every other Sunday and now I'm doing prob 25%. Is that what's causing my fish to act diff?

Really? Nobody can tell me if I'm going to lose 5 big bass or if this is normal or what's going on? ANY input is appreciated, thanks

Ok when it's down to 40 degrees outside u think I should still do 50% changes? I'm afraid I'll drop them temp down too much and stress them out

you don't have access to your hot water? Usually clean water (large daily changes) will help fish to fight whatever is ailing them. how are they doing?

Sure I have a sink but it will take days to do it by bucket and unless I make something no way will a python or something reach the basement

No progress, I think it's either ich or velvet, but I can't really see and distinguishible spots. I added something that was an aid not a treatment because I don't want to have to really medicate about 550gal of water

You really do need a better system for changing the water. You can buy LONG tubing from Home Depot - or even get 20 foot sections, and sister them - that's what I did, in order to do 125 foot long water changes. Sounds like the fish are actually cold. What's the temp?

Yeah I have clear tubing from home depot, I heated the one end so it slips over my faucet then I ring clamp it on. you have a 500 gallon tank and no suitable QT tank? QT them and treat them properly. If Ich or velvet use quick cure or malachite green, if bacterial use kanamyacin, if parasitic use metro combined with prazi. Pics would help.

I'd like to think my jbj trutemp 1000w heater is doing ok in my heated basement the tank is always 78 except for an hour or 2 after water changes. I just don't want to shock my fish but realistically I'll need a lot of hose to get to my fish tank from the closest sink. Most everything has died or been sold. The gar seem to be bulletproof and my birchir isn't doing too well but almost everything else is gone
