Trout Island
So heres one to chew on. I have a royal pleco and he found a home residing in one of those clay flower pots in my tank. I was feeding him the greens you guys had advised like cucumber, zucchini, squash, and so forth. He would only come out to nibble at night( thats a given after doing research). So it was time for me to do a much needed tank "cleansing" due to all the garbage build up on the bottom and such. Once I had finished and I'm guessing because the pot was moved literally an inch, he now wants nothing to do with anything I feed him, does not enter the pot anymore, and even posts on the glass ALL DAY LONG. Strange to me cause once I put him in the tank, he wasn't to be seen unless it was dark. What say you...Almighty Ones?!!

General info for ya: Royals eat(chew) on driftwood. they NEED it to survive. They create HUGE amounts of waste and good tank maintenence is a must. Give several hiding spots. If your tank was in much need for a "cleansing", Is it possible that you cleaned the tank and shocked the fish by changing your parameters? How long between water changes? How long have you had the royal? Is he breathing heavily? It could just need time to get adjusted to the new decor. Again, this fish will poop alot! I have one at 4" and it's worse than my 11" L-114 by far. So just be sure to keep up on the water changes.

Its a good size...maybe 5 inches. I keep up on the water changes very often. Its just that when the sinking waffers arent eaten right away, they are WORSE than poop! Params havent changed at all. Weird huh?

give him some time. pleco's change homes now and again. he'll be back when he gets used to his surroundings. mine do the same thing sometimes.

To me it was just odd that when it was first introduced into the tank, it found a home right away and was there for at least a week or two not to be seen unless the room was dark at night. Now that I had vaccumed the gravel and moved the pot, he never goes in and seems to never hide anymore. Plecos are a weird fish...
