In my 90gal tank amoung others there is a pair of A. myrnae, a male A. sajica, and a female convict.
I know it is not so good to have these closely related fishes together, but any fry are taken care of by the general population.
Here is where it gets wierd. First off the male myrnae is a looser. Totally useless, weak pimp hand etc., never spawns with the female myrnae (they did once right after I got them). The male sajica and female convict paired up and spawned a few times but the sajica has always been "sickly" and never really grew, very skinny etc. They havn't spawned for quite a while now.
Now it seems the female convict (very healthy, thick, growing) is hot for the male myrnae. She is chasing the female myrnae off and trying to coax the male myrnae into a cave she hangs out in.
Has anyone ever seen the female do the courting??? Is this unusual??
Burt
