Hi,
I've got some Geophagus brasiliensis which are showing signs of some form of disease...
They are darkening/reddening around the caudal peduncle as these pictures show...
As you can see on the top image the darkening extend cleanly onto the fins. The fish are between 3" and 4" long.
It started with just one of them, and is progressing through the others now. They don't seem badly bothered by it, perhaps the caudal area seems slightly more rigid. They are still eating, not gasping, not near the surface etc.
I had some white spot in a system they were in, but that only affected a couple of species for some reason, but I decided to move these anyway to their own tank with only one or two other things and not on a system. It was only after moving them that these issues showed up.
They are in a 48x18x24 with nitrite/ammonia/nitrate 0/0/60 (nitrate is 50 out of the tap). pH is about 7.8 and hard (again from the tap)
They are in with a couple of jade eyed cichlids and a young ecat none of which are showing any of the symptoms.
The previous system they were in was roughly 230gallons and had all sorts of stuff...egyption mouthbrooders, various polypterus, snakeheads, wolffish, convict cichlid, thrichthys elliotti, salvini, Vieja melanurus, red devils, platys, spiny eels - all sorts really some youngsters some mid-sized. The previous white spot had affected; jade eyed cichlid, salvini and convicts but no others.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Graham
