I found this odd jewel at my friend's store. Anyone seen this before or know why it turned out like this?

with the missing lateral spot it looks like the "Hemichromis sp. fire lips" that showed up in 2019. Its a selected strain of Rubricatochromis guttatus.
Oh I see that, just never seen one that was half pink and half red like this one.
The more I look at it, the fish seems a bit deformed around the mouth. I put another jewel with her and looking at her mouth it seems off. Like once I got round body fry from a pair of jewels, mouths were similar

Seems more and more these days, deformed fish are becoming the popular norm.
Blood Parrots, short body, now this, they are all deformed strains, the would have once been considered culls.

To me they are all culls, although it seems a bigger population of new aquarists these days seem to think they are cute, and perpetuate (what I consider) to be a more barbaric practice, the making of deformed mutants.

Turkanas have blue on the fins, or at least black.
