So I'm wanting to plants in my tank (mostly moss) and I have a unique question. I am very restricted on my cash flow right now so I have been looking for deal on a light fixture (currently lighting the tank with a house lamp lol) I found a reptile light fixture that comes with uvb bulbs on sale. Could that be something I could use up front or do I need to switch out the bulbs?

Go get a standard fluorescent light strip and a bulb from Menards. Both are pretty reasonable there.

first of all reptile bulbs are the same "recipe" as a 50/50 bulb you might use for a coral tank or any other even lighting, secondly in my experience it seems that if you are on a budget that your money might be better spent on additives to your water such as plant food, carbon, and iron supplements. i believe kent makes a 3 bottle additive system that retails for something like $10 a bottle. when I used them in my 120 with assorted plants it seemed to make all the difference.

yeah but I'm running a house lamp on my tank. I want to take care of that first. I'll check into menards. Thanks Pharaoh and everyone else for the advise.

Does a uvb really work like a 50/50 ?
