One of my rays, a bluespotted ribbontail has been swimming a lot lately. Shes also been pushing her little pelvic fins down and almost "standing" on them and curling the front of her disc up a little. Looks very strange, almost like shes getting ready to give birth. I got her relatively recently. Theres no male in the tank. Water Parameters are ideal, temp got a little warmer than i like today, close to 80, i try to keep it around 75-77.

Its not the death curl, ive seen it before. Any advice is appreciated.

Ph is 8.2 8.3 she's relatively new. Ate some ghost shrimp the day I got her last week but nothing since. It could be just acclimation still but I get worried quick with ribbontails. Might have to force feed but don't want to jump the gun

Oh I also added an additional new fx5 at the same time I was acclimating

don't think the FX5 would have done anything what chemical's are in the FX5 anything different then carbon?

Chemipure purigen and cuprisorb as well as eheim biomedia

hmmm... I'm trying to think of what it could be doing or if there is something else I'm not thinking about.

had to force feed today. Starting to see pelvic bones. Not good at all. :(

Give us more info on the tank. How big? How long running? Actual water parameters (instead of just 'they are ok')? Size of the ray. Where did you get it from?

Blue spots don't do well by nature. Usually once you get them eating, it's a lot better off.

240 gallon, ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5-15 depending on recent water change. ph 8.2 8.3, salinity 1.025, been cycled and holding elasmos for 6-7 months, no deaths or illness or parasites (that ive witnessed) so far. constantly check for -todes whenever i see a swimming ray. I know about their survival rates, but its such a beautiful animal i had to try. Im willing to go the extra mile to keep her alive, be it force feeding daily until it begins to eat on its own. Ive tried every food in the freezer (shark formula, krill, squid, cocktail shrimp, mysis, brine, silversides) and a combo of everything, as well as live ghost shrimp. The sludge i force feed is a combo of everything mashed mixed with distilled water. Worried about stress from force feeding now though.
