Odd things going on in tank?

1) My Firemouth is constantly digging and hanging out with my JD. People say this is breeding but I think they are both male the Firemouth can't pick up the gravel though.

2) No fish uses the right side of the tank unless if they are chasing another fish

3 The pictus cats don't use it either and are sometimes swimming on the glass

Some species of Cichlid will dig even when their in a aquarium by themselves, digging is a behavior in breeding but I never heard of FM and JD hybrid.
