i have an 11-12 " black rhom and he has these white patches .. they come and go day by day.. my water parameters are perfect.. 0 nitrates ,0 nitrites,0 ammonia . ph is 6.6 and water temp is 79-80 degrees . i rarley turn lights on ,and he has moonlights at night .. he is eating fine ,and active.. he has had cloudy eyes from the day i got him.,and a slight gill curl. he was in a 25 tank when i got him and he was 10" so i thought his eyes would have cleared up ,but they never did,and the gill curl is probably from being in a small tank for an extened period of time:( any idead on clearing his eyes would be helpful also.. i have had him for 2 years now . sorry the tank glass is a bit dirty added decorations to his tank night before
.. i don't think it is ich.. could it be velvet ,or something? in the second pic you can see some whitish coloring by the dorsal fin please help

0 nitrates ,0 nitrites,0 ammonia readings is a bit odd.. normally there is a reading on your nitrates... typically in the 5-15ppm range.

What test kit are you using? Drops or the sticks that you just dip in the water.

The cloudy eyes, and gill curl is from high amounts of ammonia.

On some fish you can clip their gills, but on an older fish, I personally do not recommend it.

As for it's eyes, I'm afraid there isn't much you can do.

Perhaps add some salt to the tank and see if the white goes away? But it looks like the start of hole in the head..

what are you feeding him?

i am sorry there is a slight reading on nitrates.. it is under 10ppm .. like i said in the original post .. i thought the ammonia was the cause for the gill curl and eyes.. he was in a tiny tank..i basically got him free.. i am not planning on doing anything with the curl as it has been like that since the day i got him as were his eyes . it has not got any worse ,as for food he eats smelt ,and chicken .. smelt every other day ,and chicken maybe 1 every 2 weeks. i added salt today api aquarium salt :) i touched the spot on his head thinking it looked like tiny bubbles...it did not change he did not like it either lol.. i do not see any pits or pockets on his head either.. man i hope it is not hith ........sorry i use the api water kit with drops and viles
