i found some oddball clown loaches at the LFS and i read (on ewurms blog i think) that 1.5" and under should not be bought..

how small would you guys go for an oddball CL? ...they all look healthy (fat stomach, stable, no ick, etc.) and there cheap!

should i get them? ..i already have 3 CL's at 2" would they get along? there all going in my 120 or my 180.

thanks guys

I bought a few CL's the other day and they were about 2". They hopped right in my little group and an hour later were eating. I haven't bought any smaller than 2 but if they look healthy and you can reduce stress, I say go for it.

When I see some oddballs I go for it. I quarantine them. If they look healthy and you can't quarantine them, you are taking a risk, but it is up to you to decide if they are worth it.

I just bought 14 at a smaller similar size bc they were 1.88 each...havent really had problems, although Ive heard the same, I just took a gamble bc they were that price. I guess its up to you in the end though and whether your willing to take that risk or not, I would esp. for oddballs.

okay, thanks guys...i have a quarantine tank ready...i just hope that there still there!!! lol :D ...if they are, i'll take some pics..

Saw some w/ an odd pattern at Petsmart yesterday, but they were only 3/4 of an inch, and it was just that the stripe didn't hit the bottom.

I take oddballs at any size, any condition. i got one with normal bars on one side and none on the other with a spot on its armpit, it was half dead skin and bones. 3 months later its still skinny but otherwise healthy.
Regular loaches must be at least 2.5 inches for me to buy. ive has too many smaller loaches get killed

thanks for all replies guys...i went to a different LFS today (it was closer) ...so i didnt get to pick the oddballs up :(...but, i will try to see if they're still there later this week (figers crossed)...

My only oddball loach I brought at 1.5" some 6 weeks ago (roughly) is now between 2"-2.25" and gaining weight at an incredible speed.
