so ive been planning out my 30 gallon oddball tank for a while now. and heres what im thinking.

1. Rubber lip pleco
2. Peacock eel x2
3. congo tetra x4
4. African brown knife
5. Leopard ctenopoma

any advice on how this compatability would work? It would be sand subrstate with live plants and great care would be taken each week.

compatibility wise i would see no problem, but long term size may become an issue. The ctemopoma grows to bout 20cm and the peacocks dont stay small, so as long as another larger tank is in the pipeline, be good

How's this:
one rubber lip pleco
one peacock eel (spiny eels dislike eachother)
one ctenopoma
Brown knife
Would reccomend smaller Silver Dollars as schoolers as the ctenopoma/knife might eat the congos.

Everything should be fine but eventually up grade the tank to like a 75

heres what i would say
1 rubber lip pleco
skip the eel (my peacock just buries all day, hes a waste of space to tell u the truth
get 1 ctenopomas
and 1 african brown knife
and the some killifish for the top
and a dojo loach for cleanup
that sounds like a neat tank to me :D
by the way whatever u do u should definately get the knife
mine is so great he loves to eat out of my hand and interact with me!

Beg your pardon.... 6inches=15cm, fully possible for them to attain a further 5cm! Always prepare for a freak size than an average size!!!

brown african knifes do not get too big for a 30 gall. u may be thinking about a ghost knife. and also i already have a small community tank. I dont want another bigger one, im looking for a few oddball fish with a somewhat small schooling fish for the upper water column.

I have Zebra Danios for the upper part of my tank. From what little I know so far there seems to be 2 main varieties: Short finned and long finned. I have 7 altogether, 5 long finned and 2 short finned. I thought they were going to be boring at first but they are really active in my tank. I have one albino long fin and he sort of chases everyone around. They put up with him pretty nicely though. Try the danios, I like them, they have enough color and activity to add to the top of the tank and they dont get too big.
