Oddballs brackish fish ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The freshwater love lionfish I've just heard about. Haven't yet done any real information gathering on them.

Scientific name: Batrachomoeus trispinosus

I do know that they are happier in a brackish tank, and they to have have spines like their saltwater buddy. One thing is they are not venomous and only get about 11.5 to 13 inches from what I have found out.

Trying to see if I want one and can even find one.

I'm not clear on the thread title,do you want to acclimate the fish to saltwater or to brackish?

What fish are you looking for, saltwater or brackish. If brackish you could have Columbian sharks, bumble bee goby, green scat, orange chromide and knight goby.

Monos and gymnothorax tile come to mind.

Does anybody know any oddball fish that could be acclimated to saltwater??
It depends on what you mean by oddball.
There are numerous fishes normally found in brackish water that will do well in full strength seawater.
There are 3 general types:
1. Euryhaline: those that can take the full range of salinities from FW to SW
2. FW fish that are relatively salt tolerant, but cannot handle full strength SW
3. SW fish that can tolerate lore salinities but cannot survive in FW

Uropterygius Micropterus, the snake moray. This species are often caught in both the beaches in tidepools, or in brackish rivers. The ones captured in rivers can be acclimatized to seawater without much trouble. The ones captured in tidepools can be adapted to brackish (to 1.005 sg even) but with lots of efforts.
