I just received the book "Freshwater Fishes of Mexico" and being a bit biased towards oddball species, I kinda glanced over the cichlids and perused the oddball fish. Thought others might be interested in seeing what's available from a drive across the border. I only chose species with populations found in fresh to light brackish waters. Here are a few:

Wow. Those are awesome. Any idea on where I can get a few of the livebearers?

they sometimes come into pet shops. from what I have read, they get pretty big (12") and need BW.

Truly odd fish!

con you get me some of the 3rd one down they look awsome

BALLYHOO!

I think the beak fish with their beaks on the bottom are ballyhoo. I don't know if they are one species or just a generic body format, but they are a pretty common appearance in SW even up to North Carolina and a great baitfish. Is this the same fish, just adapted to light brackish?

BTW, the cave fish are really neat. If you ever get a chance to see the cenotes (mexican sinkhole caves), they are amazing.
