What are the odds of Velvet returning a month after successful treatment with "API General Cure"? Which is more likely..Ick or Velvet? Is velvet common, or did I just get lucky & pick the right med for the wrong diagnosis? Should I go ahead & treat again ASAP?

My fish are acting like Ick (flashing, heavy breathing), but I cant tell if these are the same symptoms as before. One gourami started flashing yesterday & everyone is doing it today. If I catch the light just right they look a bit gold, but its tough to tell if maybe that is just the tannin in the water reflecting... My Polkadot loaches look washed out, but not quite dusty like they described in the sticky.

It really depends on how well your water contidion is. Maybe you cured the fish, but the disease remained in the tank. I read around and copper sulphate is supposed to help ride your tank. Also keeping the lights off is supposed to help as well. Good luck!

Will the copper hurt my loaches? The API stuff I used before (General Cure) was only Metro & proquantizel. It worked well & nobody was affected by the meds...

EDIT: Where did you find that info? I'd lke to check it out.

I did a quick 25% WC yesterday & they seem better, but they still look a little gold-ish. I'm afraid it may just be my eyes playing tricks on me... Respiration is definitely still high & they are still kinda washed out. Should I go ahead & dose the velvet meds? I wont see them again until Monday (office tank)... Thanks ALL!

I would imagine dosing again would be okay, just to be safe. But read the label on the medicine.
Did you try a copper medicine?

No, the API stuff worked last time (well, kind of...). Money is a bit tight & I had some left. If no improvement by Monday, I will go buy something better.

Well, a bottle of some sort of copper medicine isn't too expensive. Like 5 USD or so.
Try keeping the tank lights off for a few days, and possibly putting a blanket over the sides.

I've never heard that used for velvet... Is that personal experience or an accepted method I haven't seen? I dont want to kill my Java Ferns...

Nevermind... got my threads confused. I picked up some "CopperSafe". Its the only one I could find that said it works on Velvet. Are there any interractions I should worry about between the Metro, Prozaquantel & Copper Sulfate? I'd like to keep the antibacterial Metro in there until its all cleared up...
