Just got a Nandopsis Hatiensis from a LFS (the 1st 1 died overnight). He seems to be doing well - compared to the 1st one. I know/hear they're prone to bloat, so I understand only low protien foods (once they mature a little). But for now, what can I feed him?
Here's what I have already:
TetraMin (3 foods in one)
Tetra Sun Dried Krill
San Francisco Bay Brand Dreeze Dried Krill
Tetra JumboMin

I just hope this one makes ot through the night. Right now his temp is around 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit in his 55 gallon aquarium. I have an Imagitarium bubbling volcano along with a 5 inch (long) air stone. I have about 2 in a half inches of (brown) gravel as substrate, and a Tetra Whisper 30-60 gallon HOB filter. I have 1 place for him to hide (plastic popcorn box) as he's barely an inch long. Hope this helps in exchange for advice. I always wanted a Black Nasty, and don't worry..........a pond is next if I can get through these early stages.

You posted this in the wrong section, but Ime they bloat from stress not from food so just feed it a good quality pellet and try not to stress it and good luck.

Welp, he made it through the night! The only difference was that i put him in the pond with the pacu (guppies, guppy fry, glofish, lobster, 3 in. pleco) and he's actually swimming (schooling with the 2 tetra glofish then dipping off into hiding spots when I peek my head over to find him).

The one that didn't make it through the night was in a 55 gallon all by himself. After a couple of hours he was laying on the gravel damn near upside down. He only would move when i tap at the tank.

My question is will this new hait be okay with all the tankmates (preferably my pacu)?
If not, then when would be a good time to move/transfer him (without stressing him the f&$k out)?

They generally don't do well long term with tank mates. I've never kept mine with any.

I moved him twice in two days because I figured he was going to die (just like the first hait i bought). Its been about a week and he's doing just fine. Starting to see more color (black) towards the front of his body and he's doing laps around the rubbermaid.
I know imma have to move him again, but by then I'll have a seperate home waiting.
