any update? it's been 3 months!
Unfortunately, I lost him last week. I'm still in disbelief...

I was actually planning to create a post discussing his death but I have just been extremely busy. I might as well discuss it here...
Basically, I was out of town all last week for the 4th of July weekend plus some days after that. I ended up coming back home late last week and noticed the following morning that my odo wasn't out and about like he usually is begging for food....I instantly knew something was up. I didn't check on him the night before because I came home pretty late and just went straight to bed. Sure and behold, I noticed that he was behind one of the driftwood pieces breathing heavily. I turned on the light and didn't notice anything physically wrong with him until he turned to his right side. The right side of his body had a giant deep gash which was covered in fungus. Also, his scales were peeling around the wound and it was just red everywhere...you can see the pic below (WARNING: MAY CAUSE SOME SICKNESS TO YOUR STOMACH). That's when I just got sick to my stomach. I tried immediately treating him w/ whatever medications I had as the LFS were still closed but he died within hours. It was like he waited for me to get home so he could say his final goodbye...really dramatic stuff I know hah
As for what my theories are on how he died...there's really only 1 explanation. He is housed w/ nothing but giant clown loaches where they've been together for about a year already. So I don't think he died from aggression from the loaches. He likes to hang out in one my terra cotta pots which has a hole at the bottom so fish can swim thru it. Anyways, that hole isn't smooth and does have minimal rough/sharp edges. But I've never seem to have issues with it until now. I believe he may have been spooked out and was stabbed by one of the sharp edges. I had my brother come to my house to feed my fish every other day. So thinking he may have been surprised unexpectedly when my bro fed his tank. He must have got it his wound around the time I left for my trip because when I saw him, it was already too late. I just can't think of any other reason on what killed him. I for sure will never use that pot again.
So yea...it sucks to have ended my update thread with his death but what can I do. I haven't lost a fish in a while but I know it's a part of the hobby. It is just horrible when it's a freak accident like this and it was too late for me to act upon it. He was a good 9.5" and the net in the picture is the XXXXL one. He was one amazing fish and mos def one of the most outgoing fish I've ever own.
On a lighter note, you're little odo or should I say big odo is looking great. Keep up the good work.
