Just wondering what the compatability should be like with an Odoe and an Asian Arowana. Odoe is already in the tank. Both fish same size, around 12".

I may be able to buy an Asian Aro from a friend, but I won't if there's any sniff of potential trouble as don't want either fish having grief for no reason. I've kept Asian Arowana before with all manner of tank mates without issue.

Thanks everyone

Yea I'd say if anyone were to be the trouble maker it'd be the aro, but I personally think you'll be fine with what I've read about those in particular. I asked what kind cause some can be mean and some peaceful. If the previous owner kept it with tankmates ask how it behaved.

my odoe is crazy mean! Hates my payara. I think it's the bright flashy silver. Doesn't bother my Peru wolf fish. Just my experience.

I would remove the Odoe for temporary then wait few days or a week for the Aro get use with new tank. If you straight a head introdude the Aro into the Odoe tank then you will need to monitor them closely, change the Odoe will beat up the Aro just to show who's the boss with new tank mate.

Make sure you have a divider ready, i would say get all planned stock into the tank before the aro, my Asian yellow tailed silver will not accept any new tank mates he is a killer so there is a chance that once yours one is established he wont want any newbies. i read up after i got mine and its a fairly common occurrence.
i had an 10 inch odoe that nearly killed a 12 inch giant snakehead, the snakehead kept stealing mussel from his mouth then one day he snapped... snakehead looked like he had been attacked with a razor blade (check my old threads for pics). i rehomed the snakehead as i planned to anyway then gradually over time the odoe started picking of tankmates, sold him at 14 inch.

i would say you have a pretty good chance of it working if like others said the aro is calm.

Thanks everyone for the comments and advice.
I don't think I'll have any issues with my particular Odoe, Its not bothered any of its tank mates at all since I brought it and apparently was very well mannered since a small specimen. But you never know, once a predator always a predator.

The score is, the Aro is coming tomorrow evening. I do have a divider ready incase. Tank is 7' x 30" footprint.

I'll keep you all posted tomorrow onwards

Well the Aro went into the tank last night.
Apart from a little display from the odoe, just side by side stand-off really, there's been no aggression. Fingers crossed. It's nice to see the Odoe more active now it's got competition for its swimming level. Odoe is also showing much more interest in feeding, still not fed but since the Aro in the Odoe is charging up close to floating sticks. image.jpg image.jpg
