I recently bought a little cave for my new aquarium. My fish got ich and all died. I didn't want to add salt so I heated the water as hot as I could get it (94 degrees) and two weeks later was cleaning it when I smelled this TERRIBLE smell almost like burning rubber coming from the cave. Changed all the water and as soon as the cave cooled down it also stopped smelling. Is it safe to put back in?

Here's all the information I could get on it.
Material: Polyresin
Sold by Well Gallery
says fish tank safe
no reviews on amazon

I had just bought them from Petco and they already had ich knew the second they were put in my tank. Petco's had dim lights so I could see it and they died overnight.

discovered another plant smelled too. This was a silicone glowing mushroom and the two ornaments have NOTHING in common.

I don't follow. The ich had nothing to do with the ornament and the ornament had nothing to do with the deaths.

Here is the essence of your posts once the not relevant (deaths, ich) parts are removed:

1) you bought two different ornaments
2) one is polyresin and the other is silicone
3) you think they both smell

If you bought them from Amazon, ask for a refund or post a negative comment. Personally, I don't like to put painted objects in my tanks, but I don't see a reason for others to not do so.

Millions of people do that without a problem. Maybe you have something else causing the smell or maybe you were unlucky.

But two out of two completely different ornaments (your words) tells me it might be something related to your tank and not the ornaments.

Just my observation based on the facts you posted.
