My NLS mega fish food pellets is causing a strong funky odor to come from my indoor pond. How do I solve this problem and still feed my fish the NLS at first I thought I was overfeeding so I cut what feed in half. I have also thoroughly cleaned the pond and its filter with dechlorinated water. But hte smell is stil there.

Change feed. Ever smelled Hikari Carnivore....it's unique. That's just how it is. Do you just use that product? Use different kinds of pellets.

When you feed food that has approx 50% protein content, it's going to smell potent, no getting around that fact. You could try running carbon & see if that helps.

Well it's starting to clear up. I am using activated carbon in an air filter.

NLS has garlic in it that could be what you are smelling. The all time king of the stinko food has to be hikkari massivore pellets. I guarantee!

Its not garlic, I know and like that smell.

Put the carbon in the water filter. Get the organics out of the water, and remove the smell. Its more effective and better for the fish than an air filter.

I've gone carbonless and when my room started to smell, I went to all canister, eliminated some odor, Lower temp to condition where it's good for fish. If you don't mind, use more carbon and less air filter, the air filter circulates a lot of water to the surface, great for fish, but not odor. I think what helped the most was water changes.

Yah I should have clarified its an atmospheric air filter, the carbon is in the output.

I don't see how the smell can harm the fish when the nitrates are inthe 20-30ppm and nitrite and ammonia are at zero, temp 73F and ph 7.5-7.6.

I've noticed more of an odor feeding NLS...especially the Thera A. Some activated carbon in your filter should clear it up.

I also feed Xtreme...which, aside from being a really solid food, has a quite pleasant smell (in my opinion)...
