despite the mixed reviews i went ahead and bought one

http://shop.aquatraders.com/Odyssea-48in-2x54W-T5-HO-Light-Fixture-p/52103.htm

i have been having trouble with t12 lighting that i ve been using in my diy canopy on my 180 and i know i spent at least 45.00 on trouble shooting
i even bought water proof end caps

so far it looks to be well made
the out put is great for my 60'' 180 gal
i m using one 10000 daylight and 1 10000 actinic blue
the light is really blue but my fish look outstanding especially the jd's
there color really pops

the down side is it seems to be pretty hot after running for only 2 hrs
i guess ill need to install a fan some how
but for 45 + 15 shipping + free light s i cant complain [at least not yet]

theres been rumors of fires from the older models but they said it was with there older mh, and it has been since corrected

anyone else using these lights

What do you think about those lights? I'm searching for ideas for cheap lighting that won't burn my house down. Are those lights still working with no issues?

sorry for not getting back to you sooner
but so far these lights have worked great the color is very blue but very bright and keeps im entire 180 tall lit up
im very happy with these lights
the one down side is they do get hot i wish the model i bought would of came with a build in fan but i could mod it easy if i ever get around to it
its been running for a mount and a half and so far so good i would recommend them
the shipping is fast and the setup is easy
another down side is the included mouting brackets are good if you want the light to stand on top of the lip but not so much if you want to mount them to a canopy, but i figured something out any way

thanks for the updates . . . I guess, based on what I've read about Odyssea, it would be interesting if you gave progress reports every now and again . . . I've definitely read more bad than good about them, but you can't believe everything you read, ya know?

yeah i read a ton of bad reviews on this company, but if you look at the date they were written there all pretty old ( some going back 5 years). there's no way a company could stay in business unless they fixed there problems, and i think they have improved greatly.
i have no complaints thus far
only time will tell though

I have not use their light unit but I have used their bulbs. When it works it's super bright at a low 14w per bulb. Unfortunatley, the bulb did not last me more than 6 months.:irked:
