Hey Everybody,

I'm finallly fed up with ignoring my light fixture slowly start breaking down. I have a Solar Extreme Deep Blue Pro Light Fixture. The digital time flashes in all weird numbers and starts flicking on selected bulbs on and off. Well finally I'm going with some people saying of metal halides...lots more coral and clams you can have. I paid $250 for my current light fixture so If I get my money back then I can use it towards:

http://www.aquatraders.com/48-716W-Metal-Halide-T5-LED-Combo-p/54267.htm

Is the model good? I heard they had numerous problems few years back....also is a ballast needed...and what does it do?

They fixed all those issues.

They arent the best fixtures, but for the money, its well worth it.

I have set up tanks with virtually every single kind of light that they sell, and multiples of each. None have ever had issues. One kid ran his MH without the fan during the summer and three months into the fall before it started to overheat.

If there was ever going to be a fire, it was going to be on that unit, and it didnt happen.

Man im still worried if it will burn then all my progress would end up failling. So if I purchase those single fans thier would be no fire? Or should I look into a better more well known brand as a first timer? Thanks Flesh

I'm gonna bump this post as i had a look at these. The set like this from aquatic life was like $900... Can it grow softies and lps? how about sps?

You should be able to keep the full spectrum of coral SPS, LPS, Softies and even inverts. dual 250w mh will be plenty. In the short time you might be able to get a few more miles out of your old fixture that is annoying you. After if cools down disassemble it and give all the electronic components you can get to "a scrubbing" with the highest percent rubbing alcohol and a soft bristle tooth brush. You can also check connectors for corrosion while you are inside. Sounds like the ballast or controller connections might have corrosion issues. Anyway its worth a shot and do it at your own risk. I also recommend you let it dry out overnight.

Maybe it will help,
Tom
P.S. I'm sure you know better but just for the sake of other readers, make sure its unplugged...

It can grow anything and everything as I have stated. Used or set up tanks for others from planted tanks to SPS using virtually ever single fixture they sell. PC, T5, MH.

Fleshy what are you personally running on your 125? I trust your opinion and if you say that the Odyssea light will be just as good as the Aquaticlife then I won't argue

^^ Make sure you get a chiller.cooling devices, as I've been slowly pushed away because the need of a chiller....however the prices on aquatrader makes up for it.

I wont say they are good, but I have enough experience to tell you that they all work as advertised.

Bulbs are not usually the best quality.

I run a very similar www.fishneedit.com lap (2x 150w MH & 2x 160w VHO @4300nm) on my 125g.
