I purchased an Odyssea CFS 500 for my 40 gallon breeder and it seems to be working well. I only have a few issues with it that hopefully some people here can help me get fixed.

1. water swooshing noises all the time
2. shooting out tons of tiny bubbles and making the water all bubbly

I will be replacing the O-rings as soon as I order some new ones online so the lid parts don't end up breaking like some other photos I saw...

Now the model I received was the one with the ribbed hoses rather than the vinyl tubing. One would think, I certainly did, that the vinyl was superior. Upon going to home depot and actually seeing how thick, heavy, cumbersome the vinyl tubing was, I decided I need new ribbed hoses. I did see that the FX5 has similar style hoses. Can anyone direct me to a link where I can purchase some ribbed hoses with the same dimensions as the CF500 ribbed hoses? They are so light weight and flexible!

I will use KY to seal them on when I put it all back together.

Also...

I have a Stealth 200 watt heater. I just read here, that they explode and kill everything inside the tank.

....

Soooo I will probably be selling it and purchasing a new one.

Any suggestions for a good bang for the buck water heater for a 40 gallon tank?

Thanks!

Big Al's has the FX5 ribbed hose--look under canister replacement parts.

If you have a Lowes or Home Depot nearby you can save some cash on shipping charges and pick up the O-rings there--Danco #17.

For a heater I hear the basic Visi-therm (non-stealth) is a good choice. I have no experience with them, I'm using a 20 year old Ebo Jager.

will the fx5 hoses fit the cfs500?

also... perhaps there is something shorter than the 4 meter length they provide? I only need about 4-6 feet.

Can anyone recommend some cheap plastic shut off valves for the ends of the hoses as well?

WARNING: I have 2 of these and after about 2 months both developed stress fractures where the lid is tightened. I was carefull to only tighten enough to keep from leaking and used KY. My theory is as the blue pad becomes clogged there is more pressure. The seller replaced the lids = I took the BLUE pad out. GL

Are you looking for shutoff valves for the ends nearest the filter? I don't know that you'd need them. You can shut the filter off, close the valve on the intake, briefly run the filter to empty excess water, then close the valve on the output, then disconnect the two valves from the canister and then move the canister. This assumes that you've replaced the o-rings on the valves so that you aren't stressing the connections by repeatedly removing the valves.

As far as FX5 ribbed tubing fitting, I believe it will; I'm not sure if you need to get extra rubber end fittings for the hose though.
