Having an issue with this filter. The switch that turns on the filter just quit working last night. If anyone else has had this issue and knows an easy fix please let me know.

Thanks- Justin

I have the same issue with mines. take motor out, take apart the UV light from it and check the impeller. theres a stick that is coonected to the uv to keep the impeller in place I guess. put the motor and turn it on so it magnetize, place impeller in and see if it spinning. if it spns your gona have to bring the filter to your tank and put it in where it would be at under your tank, reassemble the motor with it powered on, position the impeller so it does spin, make sure it spins reassemble and it should work. if you do not keep it magnetize while you reassemble the impeller will fall out of place again n not spin. FYI motor doesnt make any sound when the impeller is mis align making it seem like its dead. If this doesnt work then your motor or switch is dead

The motor and everything works fine it's the power cord. The little switch to turn it on and off shorted out and I can't even get power for the filter to run. It was running fine last night and it just quit working. Pushed the button back down in place and got nothing.

cut it a splice it, risky but you can use water proof electrical wrap. im going to diy a overflow and make a sump before mines kills off on me

Ok I'll try it if that doesn't work I'm kinda screwed though...

I'm also planning on a sump but waiting for the new stand before I hook it up

splicing is easy, just dont electrocute yourself or let it touch water. Maybe go to the hardware store and ask for water proof connecters. they would know whats best for you. Man i passed up on a used fx5 for 170 on CL now I regrett it

I did the same n I bought this for $100 n I wish I had just bought another fx5
