So I was offered a 15" 4 year old pacu and I know how big they get but what I would like to know is since this fish is so badly stunted already (raised in a 55) will it resume a more normal growth rate if I moved it to my 180, I'm still really iffy on it but if it likely won't grow much more because of the stunting I might give it a good home to live out the rest of its life.
The first fish I got when I was new and hadn't done any research was a red belly pacu. I put her in a small tank and she became stunted... but every time I put her in a bigger tank, she'd grow to be slightly longer than the tank was wide, then stop. Right now, that I know better, she is in a 6.5' diameter pool and while her growing has slowed significantly, she is still growing and about 30" or so. You can tell she was stunted, though, because she isn't as tall as other pacus, but she is still as long.
that's what I needed to know, I can't currently house a pacu so I wont be taking it, I just needed to find out if stunted fish will restart its growth when placed back in proper conditions
