Hello all

New here, first post. I just wanted to get some thoughts on a new potential tank. I’ve had freshwater tanks my whole life, and once had two Oscars (sadly both in a 75 on some poor advice received). I quickly learned this was far too small, and was moving, so I had to give them up as I lacked the space for their new tank.

I always loved Oscars, and want to dive back in. Sadly, my partner won’t allow another tank in the house.

I am debating setting up a tank in my office, I am there more often than I am home (once COVID quarantine is lifted), so I think it would be great to have. But, I wonder if it will be okay for an Oscar, would it get lonely over the weekend, as I know they’re personable? Also, would two days without food be too much? I can probably have a coworker feed it one of the two days.

I am thinking a 90 or 120 gallon, with two AC110s, and a heater that I haven’t quite determined. Water changes would be easy, as we have a utility tub and faucet near by. I would likely do gravel, with some plants (fake even though I know they will be ripped up) and feed pellets.

If I do the 90, I would only get one Oscar, if I did the 120, would two be okay? Or, would two in a 120 require multiple water changes a week?

I am not in a rush, as I am unsure when I will be returning full time to the office, I just wanted to see thoughts on this set up, so when I am back, I can follow through. My hope is to find a decent tank and stand used online.
Thanks!

Welcome aboard

Yes 1 Oscar for the 90 gallon. You could do 2 Oscar's in the 120 and suggest bi-weekly water changes to keep Nitrate level low.

And one other random question, I never experienced it when I had O’s in the past, but, do they bite while cleaning the tank?

It depends on the personality of the Oscar but one good thing is that Oscars don't have canine teeth that of some Cichlid species. Hopefully the Oscar will not view you as a threat and won't become territorial.

Is there a reason why the tanks available are all 4 feet long, is there not enough space for a 5 footer or 6 footer?

Well, it’s either a 90 or 120. I need to measure the space out, and get rid of a filing cabinet.
Ideally, if I can fit a 120, and can find one, that’s what id go with. 5 foot I think would be the max though. 6 would be too long for the space
