Finally i have my own gator gar. i've prepared for this for some time now. hes about 4 inches rite now and i have him in a 500 gallon tank and will later move him to my 1000 gallon pond. when he grows into a monster i will move him to my 2 acre pond. ive been around them for a long time because my creek i have running through my ranch is teaming with them. i'm pretty sure i know what i am doing so for those of you who go aroun telling people they cant handle these fish just dont even try. other then that i am very open to advice on taking further care of these creatures!!!

...I'd put him in a smaller tank until he's bigger...

Other than that, congratulations!

I agree I have 2 put them in a smaller tank makes food easier to catch and they can't get enough speed to injure themselves when they spook I had mine in a 10 gal till 5 inch 20 till 7 and now in a 75 @12 inches I have only had them for 2 months. Keep water warm and clean with food always available. Also plenty of space for them to take breaths without hitting the top

Congrats! And yes I'd say a smaller tank for now would be more suitable for the time being as mentioned above.. Very skittish creatures and can pick up a lot of speed when spooked. Seems like your more than ready for it though!

thanks and i appreciate it! just moved him to my 30 gallon. :)

offer him a varied diet for a well rounded diet it might take a while to get him on pellets as most gars switch when they get some size too them i always wanted some of these lol in a outdoor pond
my wife loves koi but i like my natives
