Want to know if your jack dempsey is a blue gene? Look here! Okay so this is a thread to some up all "is my jd blue gene?" threads. As many of you have probably seen by now, there are many people making threads weekly asking if someone can tell whether or not their jack dempsey carries the blue gene or not. So in this thread I will summarize how you CAN'T tell by appearance of a jd whether or not it carries the blue gene. There are TWO ways to find out whether or not a jd is blue gene or not. One of these methods being to be able to see the parents of your fish. In order for a jd to carry the blue gene one of its parents must be an electric blue jack dempsey. Then comes the next way of telling whether or not a jd is blue gene or not, This method is to breed your blue gene jd. In order to find out whether or not your jd is blue gene or not you must breed it. If your jd carries the blue gene then some of the fry will be electric blue. Which will look like this
The parents can be blue gene and there is no visible way of seeing it. They can look like this..
