This is for all of the black ray fans out there. Doesn't look like they will be easy to get this year... maybe even harder next so save up the cash and get one now before they put there foot down.

NO STINGRAYS FROM BRAZIL

On our request we have received the following information from IBAMA,
Brazil:

The trade of native stingray is closed since last December. The National
Agency that regulates use of natural resources, INSTITUTO BRASILEIRO DO
MEIO AMBIENTE E RECURSOS NATURAIS RENOVÁVEIS -IBAMA is analyzing
biological research results and the social-economic importance of this
activity, to decides what must be done. We have several aspects that
must be considerate to permit (with restrict quotas) or deny this trade.
The valid legislation to the trade of ornamental freshwater fishes is
the Instrução Normativa MMA n° 13, 06/09/2005 (IN MMA n°13/05). This IN
MMA n°13/05 has a list of permitted species and gives the opportunity to
IBAMA permits other species by a specific legislation. It was the case
of freshwater stingrays, witch the validity period of specific
legislation finished at December 31.
As soon as we have a new law, we will sent to the OFI the oficial
version.

So the situation is simply that the validity of the old legislation
lasted until 31 December 2005 and new legislation is not ready yet.
According to our source in IBAMA it is not sure how long it will take
until new legislation is ready, mayby another month.

OFI has received copies of the relevant legislation, which is of course
in Portuguese.
