I have trouble with algae blooms recently, my water was green, so i started moving my ponds in a more shady area in my house.. Started doing water changes, but stil green water was stil there.. I was realy frustrated for i cannot see my bichirs.. I dont want to use any chemicals to remove the algae.. So i resulted in covering my pond for a day or two.. I was impatient..
Then one day i decided to harvest some fresh daphnia outside to feed my betta fry.. I got so many daphnia that it would fill my container.. 1 half gal so i poured the excess in my bichir pond.. Hoping they would eat it.. A few days aftr the water became soo clear that my bichirs seems floating in the air. Now i know why..
Daphnia+algae= air floating fish
hehe the good part is i got my driftwood really green.. Realy nice.

You could get a good UV Sterilizer also you could try to get some plant's to out compete the algae for nutrient's

Throw in some anacharis/water hyacinth/water lettuce/etc and any other fast growing plants and your problem will be solved as well as providing cleaner water :)
