Ok so i changed the water today in my 100 gallon discus tank and looking around in the water after i was done and after i had just turned my biowheel filter back on i see a bunch of little worms wriggling around in my water. I just had two of them die and the signs were no eating, discoloration, and not moving much.

I have been feeding them frozen blood worms, frozen beef heart, and cut up earth worms. Now my first guess was that they could be earth worm babies, but i am doubting it since two of my fish have already died.

No white stool yet but i would like to cure this asap if it is a problem. Let me know what you all think this could be.

Where did the worms come from? (where did you see them?) What colour are the worms? Can you get pics of them?
And how big are they?

they are super tiny. if i try to get a pic i dont think it will show. THey are super skinny and less than an inch long. White in color and i dont know where they came from but my guess is that they came from the bog wood in my tank or another fish but i dont know forsure. i saw them exiting the biofilter system and into the tank. my guess is that they reproduce in there or something.

yeah, these are a very annoying species of nematode[spelling]
however they are harmless little scavengers, to get rid of them bump up your waterchanges and start to feed your fish less, maybe skip a day or so.

good luck

thankyou. yea i read a little more and saw those. also is it ok for me to run some de worming medications for my discus just incase any have actual harmful worms? the two that died had exact symtops of a parasitic worm and i just want to make sure the others dont have any. let me know thankoyu

The worms you saw were not harmful to your discus but do indicate poor water quality. Maybe they were limited to the stagnant water in that filter. I think that is probably what happened.

You should de-worm your discus when you get them. Prazipro by Hikari is good.
Treat them according to the directions but in addition you should feed your discus something like Tetra Color Bits soaked in Prazi once a day for two weeks to treat internal worms. Treating only the water will not kill the internal worms.
It is a good idea to repeat the treated food regime twice a year. No drug completely eliminates internal worms.

do they look like SMALL white colored worms on the side of the tank, or do they swim?

To further prevent these, replace some of the media, wait 4 weeks and replace the older media. Just a thought for removing the worms inside the media.

Don't add any medication...like youve heard it's no big deal. All tanks go through that stage from time to time.

dude dont use medz just clean out your filter and start changing water more
