Hey guys I need help. I am getting frustrated hardcore. I cant keep a snail for more than a week to save my life in my ne 40gal FOWLR. I have had a lawnmower blenny, cleaner shrimp, porcelain crab and 10 hermit crabs in there for a few weeks but i cant seem to keep a snail for more than 3 days. My water parameters are good. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5, Ph 8.2, calcium 420 and I add Purple up every other day... Any thoughts?

hmm crabby snacks?

Are you drip acclimating your snails before putting them in the tank?

For at least 45 minutes. The crab isn't eating them. They just go in their shells and they get hard and stink

What kind of snails? Ive found that a lot of turbo snails come from Mexico with 65-70° water and don't like our reef temps. Same with some smaller snails also.
Just a thought.....

There have been 3 Turbo snails and 3 Nassarius snails. I had a diatom bloom and the cycle was over so I bought them to clean it up. They did a good job to the front and sides but the back of the tank still looks like crap. They didnt even touch it. I dont really care if I cant keep snails, it just makes me worry that the other things that I have in there are going to die. The temp of the tank is 76 degrees. I want to get a nem and clowns for it but I dont want them to die either. Its making me angry. I never had this problem with my 75gal reef.

The only things that I can think of is that there isn't enough food for them or that they're already on their way out when you bought them.

There have been 6 snails total, from two different LFS's.

if it makes you feel any better I could not keep snails alive either. I finally gave up and went with all crabs. "emerald craps" are very cool. might be my favorite to watch in the tank atm.
