Aesculus glabra is a very large stately tree with beautiful five-pointed leaves (Some say it resembles a marijuana plant leaf) It has giant clusters of flowers, followed by neat tan "balls" which are the seed coverings. They grow moderately fast.

Awesome specimen tree, or use as a truly unique bonsai. The baby trunk is very flexible and easily twisted or distorted the way you want it to. Cold hardy.

I am offering babies that have a good strong rootstock, with approx 4 to 10 inches of fresh growth with their first pair of leaves.
$15 each, shipped, or 4 for $50 shipped.

Pics off google showing a leaf, tree, and flowers.

Why don't pics show up the first time I post? Argh!

The seeds are used as good luck charms too. Forgot to mention that.

Hello
JD7, I consider "pre bonsai" a loose term attributed to trees that are not yet worked with, but usually it involves trees that have a few years under their belt.
In other words, you could consider these trees "pre-bonsai" They just are not several years old yet. With Aesculus species (Buckeyes and Chestnuts) the taproot is flexible when first sprouted, and can create a very interesting base, which is why I suggest an use for Bonsai on these trees.

As for others, you might want to see my Rose of Sharon post. And don't laugh, but I have some Norway Maples of varying ages that can be worked with as well.

Nothing "thick" yet, but will update - Are you looking for a particular type?
Thanks

I consider a pre-bonsai a plant that has some work done to it or has been picked for its potential to be a good bonsai, not just nursery stock.

Im not really looking for buckeyes as I can dig them up in my back yard, but If you have any maples or pines I may be interested. I havnt been in Bonsai for a while but who knows you might have something I just HAVE to have!

Send me a PM if you do.

Hey
Would a Norway Maple, or a White Pine work for you?

I actually do collecting myself, and can find something interesting for you if you would like.

Thickness would probably be approx 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Feel free to PM me with your specific wants and I'll see what I can do.
Gotcha, on the nursery stock vs worked-with pre bonsai.

PS
What kind of buckeyes do you have in your backyard? You must be in the midwest?
