what dose rate ( of oil of cloves) should i use to sedate a large female motoro enough to move her from one tank to another
does it harm bio filter and will it dilute once freshwater is added ( being an oil)

personal experiences will help greatly thanks shane r

subscribed to this, i need this info as well to move my GG..

I wouldn't knock her down just to move her to a new tank.
If you really want to sedate her, MS-222 (Tricane) is a much safer and more forgiving way to do it. Start at 30ppm, and have a couple doses of 10ppm weighedout ready to go. If the first 30ppm dose doesn't work, slowly add the 10ppm scoops one at a time until she slows down. Make sure you get a base line breath rate before you start so you have something to compare tp as you watch her go down. Make sure you get her fully revived ASAP when she's done.

With your GG, I would just get a large net and just move him. He may splash a bit, but it removes the risk associated with sedation. I just move a 24" jardini and a 24" marbled pim with just a net. Other than a little splashing, it was an easy move. The 15" GG fought a little harder, but it was still relatively painless.

5-7 drops per gallon should knock him out for around 3-4 minutes.

Move the ray to a rubber maid bin, or smaller tank that already has the dose mixed into it. Make sure the water is well airated with an airstone. You'll have to drop the oil into a pop bottle with water in it, and shake it up in there, then pour that into the main container. It doesnt mix well with water.

It doesnt take long to knock them out, so watch closley.

no need to sedate rays just to move them
