hahah well i know 33 people have viewed this thing and only two have posted anythin at all....
now if i posted somethin saying what is wrong with my oscar..... he is in a ten gallon tank at about 10 inches (so thats one inch per gallon rule) and he wont eat or even move. i would get a million posts in an hour flaming me about how much of an idiot i am.
so how helpfull are the people on here?
or are they just a bunch of fish snobs waiting to pick on noobs and ignorant fish keepers ???
sorry i really hate forums like this.
its seems like any thread that isnt full of flaming and is actually just a simple discusion dies....

That's pretty much it right there.

Jags and Oscars alright, and I would recommend them...not really not my cup of tea. Now, If you got wild Oscar's from Columbia, Peru, Bahia, Trinidad, Or even Florida Oscar's would be grand. Don't know jack about Gars and I don't know there temperament towards other fish, so I don't know. In a tank size like yours, you are limited to stock IMO.

what is the diff between wild caught os and petstore os ???

Pet store O's, if farmed, tend to be somewhat inbred. You'll see crooked mouths, asymmetrical eyes and possible health problems. Wild caught Oscars have managed to keep themselves fit through natural selection. Some will say that captive Oscar strains are more tolerant of aquarium conditions, but just look at how many of them come down with hole-in-the-head. My first Oscar was a farmed cheapie. My new one is a wild O. Both had great 'personality' but my new one seems far more elegant and graceful. You also get cooler patterns on the wild Oscars.

On the side, I do see wild oscars at Petsmart sometimes. More common at cichlid specialty fish shops for sure, but if you look, you'll find them.
