My DIY 200ish tank (5.5'x2'x3') is nearing completion:

http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110933&page=3

I did a bit of shopping around fish profiles today, and so far this is what I've come up with:

Bottom:
Wanted a Gold Nugget or a pictus Cat, (or both) but their water params don't match up with any of my other fish. Right now I'm thinking Leopard plec, but one of them will likely outgrow my tank eventually. This is the area where I need the most suggestions I guess. I like large plecs, and something that is nice to look at and active would be a bonus.

"Main/Show Fish"

Albino Oscar (probably only 1)
Blue Acara
Red Headed Severum
Convict

Dither Fish
a School of firemouths would be pretty. I looked at giant danios too, and they are nice looking, but I haven't checked their water req's yet.The firemouths look like they'd be the most interesting.

The tank will have a lot of shelter in it... probably not many plants though. I figure I can keep the pH around 7-7.5, temp about 75-79 and everyone should stay relatively happy. The gold Nugget likes 78+ and I don't want to cut the balance too close there, and the pictus likes acid water (6.8 max) so it wouldn't be impossible to keep either... just not much room for error before someone's unhappy.

I'm open to other suggestions too! I like fish with color and personality... preferably fish that grow quickly too, if I'm gonna have that Oscar in there.

just so you know with the dimensions u listed that is 231 gallons

The dimensions listed are approximate... I'm a real geek, and I went through and worked out the actual water capacity when I account for the thickness of all the walls and the volume of the two cut-off corners at the back I'm used for plumbing space, etc. and it's closer to 185.

The fish ound ok, it think that you could have the goldnugget and pictus, they can adjust to other water parmiters very well.

That's good news. I think I'll go with the nugget then. The pictus looks cool but I hear they will eat anything they can get in their potato hole.

haha. yeh oh well you cant overplan.

Think a snail would hold up for any length of time in there? probly not with the cichlids, huh.

water requirements are pretty overrated btw. most fish adapt to any reasonable water condition.

and how can you have a school of firemouths? firemouths don't school....

Hah! I guess I assumed they were schooling fish when I saw them suggested as a dither fish :p oops.
