so i am desperately trying to pair up some dovii. i have went through about 3 females and now i have been through 2 males. i can not get any of them to pair up or even try to get along. every time i try and introduce the female to the male he just violently attacks until she tries jumping out of the tank. i have tried 3 different females with all the same result. so now i have this 7 inch female who did the same thing to one the males i tried. now i have this 5 inch male that i just put in the tank and she is attacking him again until he laid sideways on top of the water:nilly:. so i seperated them with a divider and now im not sure what to do. is there anything i should try? everytime i hear about someones dovii pair i want to slap a baby. (j/k) PLEASE HELP!!!!

cut some holes in the divider big enough for the smaller fish (male or female) to escape to the safe side if things getting rough or put some dither in your tank so your aggresive fish can pick on something else and some hiding places will also help.

whenever i have to introduce a new fish, especially adult size, i always rearrange the decor in the tank so that the old inhabitants will look for a new territory instead of having their full attention on the new comer.

hope that help

yeah and be a little more patient. A 5" dovii is still relatively small, mine didn't spawn until my male was 10".

let me make this more clear. its been like 6 months. the tank is 150gal. im not really worring about spawning right now. the female lays eggs like clock work. im just wanting the fish to somewhat get along instead of killing each other.

ahhhh thanks for the help guys. ive spent a lot of money and put a lot time into this. it just gets frustrating sometimes. i have a divider in there now with the holes in it. seems to be working fine. we will see when i wake up in the morning. again thanks a lot guys/gals.

try letting them spawn through the divider. the only thing is the male may not hit all the eggs. thats what happened when i useto keep fhs and a midas

just an update. so after about 2 days with the divider in the tank i noticed that the male wasnt even using it anymore. he was just staying on the females side. they are getting along great now. thanks a lot guys for the help. i was just super frustrated. patience is the key. lol. so ya i hope everything goes well. i have taken the divider out and its been about 5 hours and seems like they are pairing up. thanks again.
