Ok, I just put the down payment on my new 150 gallon tank. It has 2 fluval 405 filters. I am picking it up this sunday.....meanwhile I have to figure out what to do with my 2 55 gallons...so many options but I guess what I have to ask is...What are some good ideas for cover that are aesthetically pleasing, and offer good cover for my cichlids? So far the fish going in are 1. 3 inch jaguar cichlid 1. 2 inch tiger oscar 1. 2 inch Jack dempsey 1. 2 inch flowerhorn cichlid. These are the fish I picked so far...I would like to add maybe 1 or 2 more cichlids, but just cant seem to pick...I was thinking maybe like a convict or something...does anyone have any really cool cichlids that will not bow down to other fish, or get killed, but won't pick fights with everyone? Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you -Tyler

Nice :)

I can see the jaguar causing problems in the future. The rest of your stock looks good other than that. You could add some clown loaches, a texas cichlid, a electric blue jack dempsey, or a green terror

A chocolate or nic or rotkeil severum would go well with your stock but I would get rid of the jag as he can get pretty big.

Every fish in your current stock will pick on the oscar. Oscars are very predatory for some reason people tend to equate that with aggression and they are labeled as aggressive which often leads to them being housed with truely aggressive species. Eliminate the oscar and keep the others. If you are set on the oscar remove the others and add less aggressive species such as severums. Also many are posting that the jag will be the problem which is a definite possibility however imo the flowerhorn will be a bigger problem. Jags are territorial given the space they will defend a specific area and thats it. Fh on the other hand can be just downright nasty.

I also agree with whats being said in the long run you will run into problems and it will be the Jag and Flowerhorn causing it.

The Oscar and Jack Dempsey will defo end up getting picked on by the other two.

As for what to recommend theres quite a few at the moment you have SA, CA and Hybrid would you rather a few more Centrals or Souths?

Good Luck.

Thanks Darren.

I think that a texas, green terror, or even midas could go well with that stock too. Yeah.... The Jag and the Flowerhorn may cause issue eventually. For now though, I say go for it and if you have to remove them later, remove them. But in the mean time you can definitely add another couple of fish to the mix while they're still small. Clown loaches do look cool and should be fine with that stock. I would get at least a group of 5 loaches if you get them as they'll school together and it's tons of fun watching them in a bigger group. I have a bunch of giant zebra danio in with my 125 gallon and they do pretty well with my fish. You've got some options. Good luck! And post pics when/if you can.

Are we forgetting that this is only a 150 gallon?

You are already overstocked. Maybe not at the current size of the fish, but in a couple months, they will be quite a bit bigger. These types of cichlids/hybrids grow FAST. The overstocking is only because of the Jag and Flowerhorn.

That Oscar is going to get killed.

And the Jag and FH will eventually both want the tank for themselves, and only one will end up alive.

I think you need to do some research on the fish you have in there right now before adding even more fish to an already overstocked tank.

Maybe get rid of the jag and flowerhorn, and replace with something else.

I don't know, From what I have seen on youtube, and in person the jaguar cichlids seem to get a portion of the tank that is "theirs" and dont let anyone in it...If I have plenty of cover I think i'll be alright...I am a bit nervous about the flowerhorn though considering they are a trimac mix of some sort...
