i know this is a really stupid question, and i'm sure those who have read some of my threads think i'm an idiot for thinking this but i just can't see why not. i know you guys have told me that two completely different species of fish will not breed unless closely related to one another. but why not? if that is the case, then why do some fish that are completely different pair up? ex. my best friends 5" comet is paired up with his 6" senegal bichir. my blood parrot is paired up with my both my 6" albino bichir, AND my fuelleborni. by "paired up", i mean they are constantly rubbing on one another, flirting, etc. i just don't see how since they are so close, all being fish, that one's sperm can't fertilize anothers' eggs. i'm not saying i believe it can. i'm not that hard headed. i guess all i am asking for is a scientific explanation. sorry guys. anyone wanna take this one?

Fish perverts!

yeah, just because they can't physically breed doesn't mean that the fish know that. they like eachother, they hang out, they get frisky, but their genetics don't line up enough to produce viable offspring, or even the drive to want to progress past a 'flirting' level. that, and, come on, how smart do you really think your fish are...? ;)
