About 2 or so months ago I added a Convict and Green Terror to my 55 Gallon tank, Convict is about 2 1/2 inches Green Terror is about 2 3/4 inches. When I bought the fish, The convict was a trade in and it was with 2 other convicts in the pet store tank. after being in the tank after 2 weeks or so it dug a hole in the gravel and laid eggs on the side of a rock, It stayed there and only came around to eat for about 5 days the eggs never hatched im pretty sure they were eaten then the fish went bac to normal. Now just 2 days ago it started digging a hole under this same rock and it swims sideways under it and sits in there, and when it comes out it barely moves away from the opening. I cant see any eggs in there, but is it normal for them to keep laying eggs every so often when there is no mate?? And also the convict is real mean to the other fish when they come by.. Especially the Green Terror They fight and nip each other until I walk up to the Tank.
Thanks.

Hmmm..Ok I have heard that before, But it is just odd to me how the fish get along great when the convict isnt digging and laying eggs that arent even fertilized.

She may lay eggs for a while until she realizes that they are not being fertilized. Then she may start laying again in a few months. If your GT is an interested male he may fertilize them once he gets old enough to breed. Then you will have hybrids. That's another problem in itself. Cons are known to happily breed with other cichlids. Just don't put a male con with her. The pair will torment everything else in your tank once they successfully breed.

Thanks everyone. I definatly dont plan on getting a male con anytime soon, Im not sure if my GT is a male or female, I read that if there is orange trim around the fins its a male, but im not sure. I also read that they are hard to sex when they are still young.
