just got done reconstructing my 3 acre pond, it had a leak. it was a bass, bluegill, channel catfish pond for years, finally it dried up, crane ate the fish. actually theres 2 small puddles left with bass in them but they wont last, saw 8 cranes today. but im wondering, is it possible to turn this into a koi pond? is a liner required? do i have to have a filter? lol god i hope not, i dunno how u build a filter for a 3 acre but dunno. if its to much of a hassle ill just restock it with lmb, bluegill, channel cat again. thanks

it can be done ive seen 3 large ponds around here like that with large koi but you mighit never get to see them if theres enough natrual food and they would have to be a good size not to be eatn by other native fish, or racoons, cranes ect. there alot like carp ..large koi are very pricy too

price isnt a problem, and there wont be any other native fish if i got koi, i will kill whats left, which aint much, and im about to start shooting the crane. yeah yeah its illegal but i can protect my fish :P so i wont need a filter?

In Japan they actually raise the koi in mud ponds throughout the spring and summer. Then they harvest them in the fall. There are a lot of nutrients in the mud that do the koi good. I don't think you will need a filter but, you may need aeration. Does the pond get stagnant?

yeah it does, theres no moving water, but i can put some aeration in it if needed.
