I am probably getting a red wolf fish, for me and the boys. I have a 75 gallon tank that has been up and running for 2 months now. PH is 7.0-7.4, temp around 78, ammonia 0, trites 0, and trates around 10 right now. all I need is the aquascaping done, I want to have a nice big live plant in 1 corner for him to "hide" in, will have a cave(probably a ceramic plant pot) on one side as well with another live plant, maybe not as big. My question is, is there such a plant I could get for him, that wouldn't need a CO2 setup? maybe just some drop in CO2 occasionally. right now I have a 48" flourescent bulb that is 5500K zoo med tropisun bulb

any help would be appreciated....

If its a single tube then thats not much light to begin with, but if you're going to stick to it and not upgrade it, then I'd recommend amazon swords, they open up to provide lots of cover, I have a bichir that spends at least half of his day underneath one. Im sure your future wolf fish would appreciate it. If you're just going to have one single plant in the tank, Id think about a spot light type of a set-up.

was thinking about attaching a few plants to a couple pieces of driftwood that I have, would you recommend all swords? the LFS suggested anubias and javas. I am not going to have just 1 plant, I am gonna have a couple but all in 1 side of the tank, and then some floating plants most likely.

was at LFS and talking to them about getting me a red wolf, they said all they see on the sheet is red spotted wolf? are they the same?

I can add another of the same bulb, but really wanted to do a moonlight, maybe go with the spotlight suggestion, I have a few Lamps around from my Lizard days...LOL

IMO anubias and java will be largely dictated by the size and shape of your driftwood piece, you can get a good coverage with these if the drifwood piece is is rather flat and broad in its size, and branches, thus you'd be able to attach either of these plants and they will grow out to provide the same kind of cover.

The upside of this method is that you do not have to have any substrate, just a good driftwood piece. the downside is that the anubias are slow growers, I am not familiar with wolf fish and their manners with the decorations, but if it gets torn apart often then it will never have time to grow out.

the java fern is nice because it reproduces often and you can get a few tiny sprouts growing off the leaves every few weeks to replant in another part of the driftwood. they're easy to clean and maintain, probably even more so than the amazon swords, but they dont get as big, once again you will be depending on the amount of plants rather than the size of one plant.

If you're going for a couple of plants start with one amazon sword(if you plan on having substrate) and a java fern plant, a small amount that you can spread out over time.

thanx for the responses guys. what is the best way to attach the plants to the driftwood? I have heard fishing line, black thread, and even super glue....if using super glue, do you super glue the roots to the driftwood?
