Hello all

Well, today, we had the coldest day that march has ever seen in saskatchewan for the past 125 years :screwy:!!!!!!!!!

I been planning for some time on what we was gonna do for a fish room, and, after spending months looking and lurking have some ideas.

First thing to be done is to rip apart the entire room that will become the fish room. I will take a very detailed series of pics to document this whole thing as we go along.

Thus far here is the inner guts of the system I will be putting in place

the fish room will actually be phase one of our fish company that we are starting and sw will be a part of our focus hence the sw equip.

The plans are to rip out all of the ceiling, walls and electrical and redo it all with modern up to date stuff, our house was built in the 50's so it's a little dated but solid as can be. I also have plans to take out the basement windows and fill them in.

Though i hate bettas personally, people seem to love them so this is what will be used for our betta wall. Once i clean them up they will look so spiffy and killer part is each unit runs off of one single 110 plug, so that is 12 tanks with a single wall plug.

There is a wet bar in this room, 2 teleposts and no walls so its perfect. I will update this thread as we go.

One very nice thing is that my restaurant will shortly have no tank under 100g so we will be able to make it a nice bit of showroom atmosphere.

Any advice or ideas will definitely be appreciated

The chiller threw me for a loop since it didn't have a cover. In the first picture, I thought the compressor was a tank. The stainless tanks are also interesting. I haven't seen any like that since I was a kid.

I can't say how houses were built in Canada back in the 50's but here they were not wired with grounds. It wasn't until the 70's that ground wires were required. Your flourescent and MH lighting is going to need to be grounded for the ballasts to operate efficiently (or at all when they age). I'm certain you already knew that but I just wanted to make sure. (May be helpful to others reading this.)

Take lots of pictures and keep us updated.

ok so i did a fast draw of what the room looks like on graph paper and took a few pics just to give an idea of what i have to work with

the red part is the wet bar

not sure if im taking down the false wall to expose the back store room with premade shelves or not

DSC06897.jpg

from my calculations the main is 560 sq and the back store is 82 sq

just got off the phone with the drywall place and m2 sheeting will cost me $24 a sheet, so 2x28 foot walls, 1x6 1/2 foot wall and 1x10 1/2 foot wall and the roof 20x 28 foot unless I strip the plaster and just paint the roof, but, I figure im gonna rework the whole electrical with a new subpanel and new wire so I will most probably take down the ceiling

The rough cost for the sheeting comes in at $977, have to add in the mold and mildew resistant tape an mud but materials should cost no more than 1200. While we have the walls an roof bare will put insulation in behind any suggestions on that are welcome.

If i get any tradesman to do the drywall it will be a ex fish breeder I just got off the phone with. I am thinking that total build cost to remake this basement will come in at around the 3-5 grand mark.

What i am really liking about this is that it is a space without walls

I will take some shots of before an after and will post as we go along
