Ok to keep Pleco with Poly

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting a L18/L177 Golden Nugget Pleco for my tank which already has a Palmas Buttikoferi in it. Would it be alright to do so? I have heard that some plecos with rasp on the body of polys, resulting in them losing their slime coat and eventually dying. Would love to hear some opinions on this.

even though I have heard of this behavior I have kept senegal bichirs with several plecos for over 2 years now with none such behavior observed, and no slime coat issues. I'd say go for it.

From what I can gather, it seems that the common Plecos and Gibbys will suck on the slime coats of more inactive Bichirs such as Endlis. Fancy Plecos and active Bichirs seems to mix fine. I have a Vampire Pleco and Royal Pleco in with a Senegal and they were also housed with Delzhezi, Polli, and Ornate before as well.

I had a gold nugget with my bichirs for years. Never had an issue.

Gold nugget should be fine. I had one in my tank before. It would rather eat yams rather than slime coat.

Thanks to all who posted with replies. Gonna swing by my LFS to get one tmr. boy the big specimens don't come cheap btw is it absolutely essential to get a piece of bogwood for them to chew on?
