Just purchased one of these guys a few days ago, he's about 6-7" so still a bit small. He's been introduced to my 55 bog wood community much to his pleasure. It's a sand bottom with tons of caves and wood systems. The other inhabitants are a mix of catfish (pleco, banjo, farlowella, upsidedown, cory) a large female 3 spot goruami (6.5") and then some Buenos aeries and silver tip tetras.

Now, for feeding I know these guys can be picky, my clerk assured me he had him on pellet foods but still. The tank has a solid breeding population of ghost shrimp, least killi, endlers, and guppies. At his size he could probably take any of those if he wanted.

Should I still be offering him frozen/live worms and such or would the above listed species suffice him should he want live prey? I also feed the tank with omega one flakes, zoomed pellets, algae tabs, fresh veggies, and of course, catfish pellets.

Also, I figure I know the answer here but, he's probably gonna munch on those silver tips when he gets older right? I know the BA's are too big but the silver tips are 2" max.

If you have smaller shrimp and guppies then he might take them but it's still probably a good idea to get him eating food you offer, just to make sure he is eating well.

On a side note, do you have a larger tank for him to go into? I ask because these guys get to be about 36" long, some have been recorded at 40" long, in aquariums. The 55 is WAY to small for a fire eel. He might be ok in there for about 9-12 months, depending on how quickly he grows.

I'll be keeping an eye on him then and seeing if he's eating the pellets and such, which would be ideal.

Oh yes, this lil guy's gonna have a nice big aquarium when he gets a little bigger. I'm working on obtaining either a 200 gal tank with an amazing foot print, it's about 12" tall and square in shape with a flat glass lid that hinges half the tank, the other is a pretty standard 300. Either one should do him nicely but i'm aiming for the 300 since I don't know if 12" of depth will be enough for him

Ok, that sounds good. I think the 300 would probably be best also.

Also keeping an eye out for any local's getting rid of tanks too XP. I think the minimum for him would be a 200 with a good foot print. This is florida though, there's always someone throwing out a giant tank. As it is, the stand I have now is a custom oak laminated piece for a 150 fiber glass tank. The tank was cracked wide open but the stands great and it was all on the side of the road.

Sounds like he will eat well. Frozen bloodworms will most likely get him to eat
