I just did a re test of my water parameters after i did a 60% W/C yesterday about 13 hours ago, I have a 55 gallon tank with a pleco and a pair of black convicts M/F. I just realized that the female laid some eggs in the little wrecked ship :D she must have been pregnant when i got her as i just got her 2 days ago lol and she already laid eggs when i was gone for the day lol. I was just wondering if the water parameters are fine i know the Nitrates a little high as well as the Nitrite is as well but i am gonna test my tap tomorrow because i am thinking that might be as to why they are up.

with those numbers the tank isnt cycled yet should have 0 nitrites. convicts dont get pregnant but will spawn at the drop of a hat before ya know it your gonna have more than you know what to do with . keep up the water changes and use a good conditioner such as prime

i did a retest on my nitrites and its at 0ppm now so i think it should be good it didn't occur to me but i had fed before i did the test and i did a W/C and tested after, ill check it tomorrow when i wake up and see where i stand i also have a red melon sword and a regular melon sword in the tank as well to help with the water quality as well. I just think i had a spike or something because its been cycled enless my bio took a hit or something. and im just using tetras aquasafe atm got a deal on it but i am gonna order some prime as well with some other stuff on monday.

There is something right with your water or she would not have laid eggs.

Im just thinking i had a spike or something not really sure, because when i checked them when i woke up everything was fine, meh i don't know lol i just figured with the plants and all that they would soak up some of the nitrates lol.

what type of plants? most aquatic plants prefer ammonia to nitrate, thus competing with BB for food.

Red Melon Sword, And regular Melon sword are the only two i have in the tank right now.

Either way, if the plants are thriving they are taking away from the overall bio requirement, be it ammonia or nitrates.

Makes sense, didn't figure it'd make that much of an impact lol just wanted better water quality lol, Ill pull em asap

Dont pull them. taking away overall bio requirement is GOOD.

And if you did, it could cause an ammonia spike. You remove plants, they stop absorbing ammonia. the BB present cannot deal with such a huge amount of ammonia and would require time to multiply.
