I have a 10 oz jar of NLS that I've barely used 10% of in the last near 8 months. I read something about dry food losing its nutrient and taste value after 6 months.

Is that true? Should I get a new jar and toss that out or can I safely keep feeding my fish from that jar?

I myself would not toss it out.

Yeah, its been covered. Although, a little while ago my cat got a hold of it and punctured some holes in the container, so I transferred it all to a ziplock bag.

It's fine, based on age, I buy bulk flake that lasts a year or more per purchase....I can't see it being an issue for some time yet

On the new bucket of nls it gives an expiration date that is about a year out, feed it, no harm

I have some since my fish quantity diminished greatly... that is probably from about 2007-2008, still feed it to my odd breed of flowerhorn and its colors are still popping pretty good. I'm sure it will be okay.

After 4-5 yrs most of the vitamin content in a dry fish food would be significantly reduced.

A nicely colored fish does not necessarily equate to a healthy fish.
