When I broke down my old 180 toward the end of last year to have my wood burner fitted I had a bit of a juggle round. I let some stock go and I bought some new stock too.

Some of the stock I let go were my Dennison barbs. They were quite old, big and magnificent. It was a decision I made but over the past few months I have began to really regret that decision, especially every time I go to my LFS because they are in their display tank, along with all my old rainbow fish, which are also looking great.

So, due to it being fathers day today I went to another LFS to treat myself to another group of dennisons. I bought half a dozen around the one and a half inch mark and they are now in my 360.

I couldn't be more delighted to have this species back in my care again. A truly magnificent fish and imo a staple addition for the larger community set ups.

They seem to be coming down in price too. Not long ago I'd have paid £20 each for my half dozen, but I got those fish today for £10 each. Happy days.

Has anyone else ever parted with stock and then regretted it to such a degree that you went and got some more?

I've done that a few times, usually for a similar reason to that which prompted you. In my case, it was almost always because I was moving and simply couldn't rush around fast enough to get everything set up in the new house to keep all my fish. I kept in touch with the new owners as they were usually friends; almost never sold or traded fish away to stores or strangers. Once I even got one of my old fish back, years after moving him on.

Considering how often we...or at least I...get a must-have species, only to find a couple years later that the interest level has evaporated...isn't it nice to find a fish species that you like this much? :)

Congratulations esoxlucius esoxlucius ! Your regret is solved!

By any chance, was this inspired by my multiple recent comments discussing my future roseline sharks in addition to Father's Day? ?

Annoyingly, yes, you inspire me more than you'll ever know. When I put my dennisons in my tank today, it was like I was adding the finishing touches to a masterpiece.

I stood back, looked at the tank and said to myself, "damn Esox, your 1636.59 litre tank is looking fine!!"

Damn you to an imperial hell, lol.

Damn you to an imperial hell, lol.

You know, something like that just happened to me that you'd absolutely love to hear about. In fact, as I describe below, you also have plenty of influence on me!

As you may have gleaned from those same comments of mine about my future roseline sharks, I'm going on an international trip this July to do my part in a deal of getting the tank they will be going in. I hired someone to do the maintenance on existing tanks as needed while I was gone, and they came over to familiarize themselves with what had to be done today, a mere 9 minutes after I commented on here.
Then, I kid you not, they started using all kinds of imperial measurements about 15 minutes into the discussion! Gallons, feet, inches, so very confusing! And being 15 minutes into the discussion, it lined up suspiciously well with the timing of your comment.?
Went on for quite a while too, the discussion didn't end until after 6:40.

So I guess that was your damning at work. ?
How could it not have been?

In all seriousness, I have a question about that 1636.59 liter's stocking. At this point, you currently have schools of roseline sharks, bala sharks, Borneo redfin bala sharks, beardless barbs, and filament barbs in it.
That's 5 different species of mid-water schooling fish. Does it ever look disorganized and overly mixed, like many tanks with so many schooling species seem to?
A full tank shot might help other MFK members know the answer to the question, since :worthlesswithoutpic:

I can't think of anything ATM.
What I wanted to comment on was the price drop. These are now being bred in captivity. They used to be wild caught and wouldn't or didn't breed as readily as other barbs. My group has shown breeding behavior and they may have even bred but with the other fish in the tank I doubt any eggs survived let alone developed.

I miss my salvini i rehoused. He was just too aggressive and even though he looked great i didnt want to get rid of all my other fish so he had to go before he shredded them all. It was shocking how after i removed him and then did a big waterchange and rescape all the other fishes behaviour and colouring changed so much. They must have been living a very miserable fearful life with him cruising around the tank.

I will get another one again one day, i was very tempted recently but thought a 40G might be a bit small for one.

Wow, you certainly take notes as you go along don't you. You've rhymed off nearly everything I've got in my tank, lol.

I just love that busy look in a tank, the hustle and bustle. I realise that style isn't to everyone's liking but hey, we all have our personal preferences.

There is a little method to my madness. I have tried to be geographically correct. All my fish, with the exception of a solitary BN pleco, are from Asia, so it's an Asian comm tank, I like that, lol.

Also, the species I have are extremely placid with one another, even my 20" GG is like a big teddy bear with them all (I got lucky with him because GG's can be extremely intolerable).

And my water change schedule is 70% once per week. Before when I had my huge lemonfin, tinfoil and cigars, I was doing about 85% every two days!

A full tank shot

Before, when I had all my big bruisers in that tank, I used to post up pics quite regular. They were slow moving and just cruised around. Taking unblurry half decent pictures was easy.

Now? Not a cat in hell's chance. Stills would simply be a blur, the pics would be awful. I've mentioned before that this tank, to fully appreciate it, has to be seen in video, and therein lies the problem. I simply don't know what I'm doing regarding downloading vids, not yet anyway.

Some members, through PM's, have even tried to explain to me, but i need someone looking over my shoulder to guide me. I will get there one day but for now you will simply have to take my word for it regarding how fantastic, imo, my 360 now looks. Lol.

This is exactly what my guy said at the store. Obviously captive breeding programmes are going to bring the price down, and in the case of Dennisons the prices do seem to be coming down, long may it continue.

What doesn't sit well with me though is the fact that clown loach, also captive bred in their millions, are still sold at stupid prices!! Go figure, lol.

You know I just thought of a couple both were from the same tank. A few years ago when my life was upsidedown I gave my African red-eye tetras and my Congo tetras to my lfs. I'd like to get more of both.
