ey all, Love Monster Fishkeepers!! I appreciate you all and all your knowledge and experience. Would love a MONSTER tank, space issue.
Anyway, i have been breeding Koi angels for 25 yrs, just stopped that noise about 2-3 yrs ago. Too much success, getting harder to get rid of all those babies. Fun while it lasted, watching them grow and coloring up. I had a tank in every room of the house, but now I only want 2.
My 55, has 5 male angels in living room, they are about 8 yrs old now, 4 females about 7 yrs in a 40 breeder that I want for my library room, chill out/zen room. I live in a mobile home so limited to tank size.
I would love cichlids for my 40 breeder after the females go. Male tank...So i was thinking stick with S/A cichlids. I love the firemouth and convicts, sevrums( maybe took big for 40 breeder )
How abt 1 fmouth, 2 convicts, 1 black, 1 pink, maybe a parrot. I need all you guys expertise...let me know.
Surprise me. Not big into the dwarf species. I like longevity in my fish. Or......???
Thank you all for being you.

Welcome aboard :)

I would suggest a pair of Convicts and a group of Buenos Aires Tetra.

Hello,
goin to have trouble mixing those in a 40 breeder long term. These guys are much more aggressive than angels. I would agree with tlindsey, that a pair of convicts or firemouths with some dithers would be a good choice. Also, a group of cichlids like rainbow cichlids or nanoluteus, 1 male preferably with 3-4 females, would be nice.
Severum and parrot will get too lalrge for a 40 unfortunately

WoW, thank you for responding so quickly. I will take all responses into consideration. Yes, just a couple with some dithers would be interesting, i agree.
Thank you so much.

Since I have had Firemouths that attained 8" (and have seen a 10" males in Chicago) and the same for convicts , I would say a 40 gallons for them, would only be sufficient as a grow out tank.
Amatitlania nanoluteus, and rainbows (Herotilapia multispinnossa) are about the only Central Americans fit for that small a tank.

male nanoluteus above, female below

and they might do quite well in that tank, with geographically correct live bearers such as swordtails or mollies, as dithers.

rainbow cichlid below

If looking for something more exotic, Etroplus canarensus one of only 3 cichlids, endemic to India might be an interesting choice, with rasboras as ditherers in a 40 gal
