These photos were taken circa 2002. These are the first-ever photos of my original Cichla orinocensis and even though I had already had some C. temensis, none were wild collected like these. I have posted some photos of this import on several websites, but I don't think I ever did here. So, I hope you enjoy them. The C. temensis were 15 and 17-inches. They shipped into the USA at one per box. Shipping cost alone was over $100USD.

I will bring these fish in again, hopefully very soon ;)

Whoa there, buddy, LOL.

As for the cost of importing....the $100USD was just the shipping expense, that didn't include the cost of the fish :)

im guessing you meant a $100 for each box... do you have any pics of these guys once they settled in?

Here is the same group of fish after some special Jedi care :D

NOTE: See the one that has all the spangles? That was one of the original "Cichla sp. Venezuela." When Jeff Rapps imported his from the same area a short time after these came in, he and I both thought the spangled ones were different than the typical C. orinocensis. This name - Cichla sp. "Venezuela" is still in use today by some who still think it's a different species. Seiichi can explain his role in that name, too.....but that is really time traveling....very old school (2002).

Believe it or not, the orino in my avatar is here in this post as a 7-inch teenager, LOL!! Many of the orinos from this shipment went on to other hobbyist's homes...despite some calling me selffish and a hoarder...I did share them. These were the most magnificent-colored ones that I have seen. One day, we will see them again :)

Enjoy :D

I guess when compared to today's prices it may be cheap. I don't know really. Fuel is a lot more expensive these days. I remember thinking that was a lot of money back then. I think I may have paid $200USD for the fish alone??? I really don't remember anymore to be honest.

large tems are still going for that :) but there are seemingly less that are cabable of paying or getting them...

The shipping on the other hand is .. Like you said more.. I could also be wrong..

that is still a CHUNK of change!! :) Tax return time:ROFL::ROFL:

I am however expecting to spend more on shipping now than that of 2002. gas is about to go on the rise again.. now would be the time to do it.. But here shortly it is looking like it is once again going to Shoot :)

But anyway!! I cannot wait to see which species You breed next!
