OK - it's been a while since I've bene in the hobby -but getting back into it now. I have an Oceanic 75 with internal overflow. I want to use the old-school DLS material in the overflow. I am looking for the black plastic mesh material - need it about 21" tall x 3'. The material I'm thinking of is about 1/2" to 3/4' thick.

I know Oceanic sells spongs that slip over the 1" drain tube - but I am skeptical how it works. I have an Oceanic sump - where the drain drops into the "deep well". So adding a filter bag doesn't seem like it will work.

Open to all ideas.

Thanks

An inexpensive better solution would be to buy a replacement sponge for an Aquaclear 110 then cut a slot through the center of the narrow end. Slide it over the drain tube. Voila, all the particulate matter gets trapped in the coarse sponge. Take it out and clean it under running water once every couple weeks and put it right back in. They virtually last forever.

Plastic mesh is easy...39 cents a sheet at Hobby Lobby. Is there something special about that particular mesh?

EDIT: I agree with Nolapete... AC50 foam blocks are like duct tape & WD40, good for everything!
